What causes bloating in the stomach ?

Bloated stomach

Bloating can have many causes. It can occur when you swallow too much air, when an excess of gas accumulates in the intestines, during the fermentation processes, or due to the impossibility of eliminating gases from the intestines. In some cases, bloating causes a noticeable swelling of the abdomen.

Extreme bloating is no joke. If you’ve ever looked in the mirror in the morning and then again at night and wondered how on earth your stomach could look so different, you’re not alone. The truth is, we all deal with extreme bloating at some point. It happens to everyone—even those bloggers you follow on Instagram, even you, and even me.

What is bloating ?

Abdominal bloating is a situation wherein you constantly feel full, your stomach feels like it is packed with either water or food and you have no space left for even a drop of water. Abdominal bloating refers to a condition in which the gastrointestinal tract is filled with gas and you experience tightness and discomfort around your belly area. Often people complain about pain, frequent burping or rumbling sounds from the stomach and flatulence.

What causes bloating ?

“All of us create some gas [which leads to bloating] depending on what we eat throughout the day,” Kyle Staller, M.D., a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital tells SELF. “Certain foods create more gas than others.” The foods that produce the most gas are called FODMAP, which stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols, according to Stanford Health Care.

Gastroparesis :

Gastric

Gastroparesis is a disorder that affects normal stomach emptying. The stomach muscles stop working properly, which causes food to pass much more slowly through the stomach and intestines.

Symptoms include:

bloating
constipation
feeling full very quickly when eating
loss of appetite
heartburn
nausea and vomiting
pain and discomfort
Another condition, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, usually causes gastroparesis.

Anxiety and  Poor Posture :

Stress

Bloating is a condition that occurs when your stomach is producing a lot of gas. It can get triggered by your diet, dehydration, stress and your posture.

Most of us have, unfortunately, experienced bloating first hand. Those days when you just can’t shake the feeling of being full and your tummy feels like it might just explode, even before you start a meal.

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth:

Bacterial, overgrowth

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth, or SIBO, is a condition characterized by too much bacteria in the small intestinal tract. The small intestines, as part of the ‘gut,’ contain good bacteria that help us break down food and absorb its nutrients during digestion. Too much bacteria can disrupt this process and, in serious cases, cause malabsorption of nutrients and deficiencies like anemia.

SIBO is a newly recognized condition, and practitioners believe is far more common than previously thought. But not much is known about it, other than the ways it manifests; SIBO can cause bloating, as well as diarrhea or constipation, nausea, fatigue, and abdominal pain.

Bloating and hormones:

Emotions,harmonalchanges

Given the sheer number of things that can cause bloating, it’s impossible to say whether bloating is actually more common among women than men. It’s certainly more associated with women, but that could just be because certain causes of bloating are unique to women, and more regular, providing more opportunities for women to experience the sensation.

Bloating has been linked to hormonal fluctuations and is a common symptom of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and pregnancy. Basically, the hormone progesterone, as its levels change in the course of a menstrual cycle or during pregnancy, can cause constipation, which in turn can cause a bloated feeling. Progesterone can also cause water retention, which is often mistaken for bloating.

Menstrual-related constipation, and the bloating it causes, can be managed by eating healthfully and with laxatives, in serious cases. And for water retention masquerading as bloating — drink more water. It sounds counterintuitive, but water retention occurs as a way to preserve the body’s hydration; drinking enough water ensures hydration so the body feels no need to retain water.

Food Intolerance:

FoodIntolerance

Food intolerance is a digestive system response rather than an immune system response. It occurs when something in food irritates a person’s digestive system or when a person is unable to properly digest, or break down, the food. Intolerance to lactose, which is found in milk and other dairy products, is the most common food intolerance.

In my Next blog I will be talking about Treatments of bloating I hope this information will definitely help you to find that what cause you bloated.
